DINA Eastwood says her husband Clint Eastwood is as brave as the tough guys he’s portrayed in Hollywood films – such as Dirty Harry – for putting his reputation on the line in her new reality television show.
Mrs Eastwood & Company, airing in Australia on pay-TV channel E! Entertainment, looks into Dina’s family life and her management of Overtone, an a capella boy band.
When she ran the idea of a reality show past Clint, his initial reaction was ‘‘go for it’’ although he has kept his distance during filming and appears only briefly on screen.
‘‘We don’t control what the other does,’’ Dina says.
‘‘There have been scripts that have come through the house that I haven’t loved that he’s done. Like (I said) ‘really you’re going to play a racist, crazy old man ( Gran Torino), why are you doing that?’
‘‘This puts his reputation on the line more than mine. I don’t have one to ruin.’’
Dina says Clint has no time for reality shows but she is hooked on the concept.
Mrs Eastwood & Company has been picked up by Bunim/ Murray Productions, the same company that produces Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
It also made Living Lohan, featuring Lindsay Lohan’s family, and The Simple Life, which starred Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.
‘‘Don’t even talk to Clint about it, he’s like, ‘What the hell is reality? Don’t watch it’,’’ Dina says.
The concept for the show started soon after the six-member South African band Overtone arrived in the US to live with the Eastwoods.
Dina discovered the group in 2009 while visiting Clint on the set of Invictus in South Africa and loved their music so much she had them perform for the cast and crew.
Two weeks later they were living in the Eastwoods’ Californian seaside mansion.
‘‘Within one day (after they got here) I started shooting everything because they were so much fun,’’ Dina says.
‘‘They had never been to America, they had never pumped gasoline before and never seen obese portions of food.
‘‘Then one of them crashed Clint’s car and ended up being in an emergency room in a hospital. I started shopping the show because I wanted the world to see them.’’
The series also features Clint and Dina’s 15-year-old daughter, Morgan Eastwood, as well as Francesca Eastwood, the 18-year-old daughter of Clint and actress Frances Fisher.
Dina said she and Clint had no issues with exposing the teenage girls.
‘‘They are living the dream – being on a reality show straight on E!, right after Kim Kardashian,’’ Dina says.
‘‘They are in heaven.’’
