Comics close gap with Olympians

Andy Lee doubts he can match ‘‘wingman’’ Hamish Blake’s Gold Logie win next year. The scallywags are getting ready for an ‘‘Olympic special’’ next week, to air on Nine the night before the opening ceremony in London. ‘‘We will have a pre-opening ceremony special to wrap up the Gap Year,’’ Lee says. ‘‘We are hoping to have as many Olympians as possible in the audience.’’ Lee (pictured, left, with Blake) says he was even willing to ‘‘spoon’’ with Russell Mark in the Olympic village when the show wrapped up, after discovering the Australian shooter could not share a room with his wife, Lauryn. ‘‘If it will help his form, absolutely. I don’t want him to be lonely.’’ He was not as confident about his own form. He said a 2013 Gold Logie was unlikely. ‘‘If that came through it would be the biggest sympathy vote of all time, it would be the equivalent of when my mum gave me a cricket trophy the night my brother won one, to say ‘you’re also good’.’’
