SO, will members of the local community get a long-awaited new Cultural Precinct or another casino on the Gold Coast City Council-owned site that houses The Arts Centre Gold Coast at Evandale? Interesting times! Hardly a day goes by without the issue being discussed or written about. That’s a good sign, isn’t it?
FIRST order of business this week is a date change. Gold Coast Little Theatre will now hold its gala 2013 season launch (a black, white and red party) on Sunday, October 21 – a week later than the date submitted for last week’s Dressing Roomers.
PIANO fans rejoice! Passionate and treasured musician David Helfgott will perform a one-off concert at QPAC’S Concert Hall on August 29. Direct from triumphant performances and standing ovations in Leipzig, Stuttgart and Vienna, Helfgott will play the JS Bach Italian Concert BWV971, Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 57 The Appassionata and Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No.2, Concert Etude No.3 – Un Sospiro, Paganini Etude No.3 – La Campanella and Apres une Lecture de Dante Fantasia quasi Sonata. THE cast for the forthcoming 1940s show In The Mood – Again! (The 1940s Golden Age of Radio Show) has been named and it features some of the most experienced and popular performers on the Coast. Double-mo Award Winner Kirri Adams, music theatre icon Sheila Bradley and leading actress Valerie Cooney will be joined by music theatre newcomers Olwen Williams and Sarah Bergervoet. The cast also features Martin Jennings, Patrick Oxley, Brad Rush and Tim Carroll, with juniors Francesca Spear and Ben Oxley rounding out the excellent lineup. THE Arts Centre Gold Coast presents Patch Theatre Company’s latest work Me And My Shadow on Wednesday at 10am and 6pm. The show tells the tale of a young girl who finds a way to be friends with her shadow. Designed to ignite the imaginations of four to eight-year-olds, Me And My Shadow blends fantastical imagery, eye- catching physical performances and magical lighting to expand children’s imaginations into the reality of time and space. DID you know we have a brass band that has been performing on the Gold Coast for 25 years? The Surfers Paradise Brass Band will celebrate the milestone on Saturday at The Arts Centre Gold Coast from 7.30pm with a concert program of wonderful, toe-tapping charts that showcase everything from jazz to movie themes. The communitybased band was first established as Versatile Brass under Band Master Arch Locker. The name Surfers Paradise Brass Band was adopted in 1994.
