SO, will mem­bers of the lo­cal community get a long-awaited new Cul­tural Precinct or an­other casino on the Gold Coast City Coun­cil-owned site that houses The Arts Cen­tre Gold Coast at Evan­dale? In­ter­est­ing times! Hardly a day goes by with­out the is­sue be­ing dis­cussed or writ­ten about. That’s a good sign, isn’t it?

FIRST or­der of busi­ness this week is a date change. Gold Coast Lit­tle The­atre will now hold its gala 2013 sea­son launch (a black, white and red party) on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 21 – a week later than the date sub­mit­ted for last week’s Dress­ing Roomers.

PI­ANO fans re­joice! Pas­sion­ate and trea­sured mu­si­cian David Helf­gott will per­form a one-off concert at QPAC’S Concert Hall on Au­gust 29. Di­rect from tri­umphant per­for­mances and stand­ing ova­tions in Leipzig, Stuttgart and Vi­enna, Helf­gott will play the JS Bach Ital­ian Concert BWV971, Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 57 The Ap­pas­sion­ata and Liszt’s Hun­gar­ian Rhap­sody No.2, Concert Etude No.3 – Un Sospiro, Pa­ganini Etude No.3 – La Cam­panella and Apres une Lec­ture de Dante Fan­ta­sia quasi Sonata. THE cast for the forth­com­ing 1940s show In The Mood – Again! (The 1940s Golden Age of Ra­dio Show) has been named and it fea­tures some of the most ex­pe­ri­enced and pop­u­lar per­form­ers on the Coast. Dou­ble-mo Award Win­ner Kirri Adams, mu­sic the­atre icon Sheila Bradley and lead­ing ac­tress Va­lerie Cooney will be joined by mu­sic the­atre new­com­ers Ol­wen Wil­liams and Sarah Berg­er­voet. The cast also fea­tures Martin Jen­nings, Patrick Ox­ley, Brad Rush and Tim Car­roll, with ju­niors Francesca Spear and Ben Ox­ley round­ing out the ex­cel­lent lineup. THE Arts Cen­tre Gold Coast presents Patch The­atre Com­pany’s lat­est work Me And My Shadow on Wed­nes­day at 10am and 6pm. The show tells the tale of a young girl who finds a way to be friends with her shadow. De­signed to ig­nite the imag­i­na­tions of four to eight-year-olds, Me And My Shadow blends fan­tas­ti­cal im­agery, eye- catch­ing phys­i­cal per­for­mances and mag­i­cal lighting to ex­pand chil­dren’s imag­i­na­tions into the re­al­ity of time and space. The work won the Help­mann Award for Best Pre­sen­ta­tion for Chil­dren 2011. Call 5588 4000 to book.

IN re­hearsal on the Gold Coast are Gold Coast Lit­tle The­atre’s Fid­dler On The Roof and Spot­light’s All Shook Up, while GCLT’S Cal­en­dar Girls is pre­par­ing to be­gin re­hearsals. The cast of Cal­en­dar Girls has de­cided to do a promo cal­en­dar fea­tur­ing the cast – can’t wait to see that one!

DID you know we have a brass band that has been per­form­ing on the Gold Coast for 25 years? The Surfers Paradise Brass Band will cel­e­brate the mile­stone on Satur­day at The Arts Cen­tre Gold Coast from 7.30pm with a concert pro­gram of won­der­ful, toe-tap­ping charts that show­case ev­ery­thing from jazz to movie themes. The com­mu­ni­ty­based band was first es­tab­lished as Ver­sa­tile Brass un­der Band Mas­ter Arch Locker. The name Surfers Paradise Brass Band was adopted in 1994.
