USTRALIAN veteran surf stars Tom Carroll and Ross Clarke-Jones will swap their wetsuits for dinner suits when they walk the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival for the screening of Storm Surfers 3D.

The epic adventure documentary, directed by Chris Nelius and Justin McMillan, will screen in Canada in September as part of the festival’s Real to Reel program, which features documentaries on hot topics or which provide intimate access into dramatic lives.

It will join two other Australian feature films already announced for the Toronto festival – Lore and The Sapphires.

Storm Surfers shows Carroll and Clarke-Jones on their quest to hunt down and ride the biggest and most dangerous waves around Australia.

Producers Ellenor Cox and Marcus Gillezeau say it’s a privilege the film, narrated by Toni Collette, has been accepted into such a prestigious festival.

They say the honour is recognition of the film’s broader appeal and ‘‘all the universal themes contained in the film such as friendship, courage and passion’’.
