Aussies in Top 10 on global shortlist
many aspiring filmmakers working with director Ridley Scott would remain just a dream, but for two Australians it may become a reality. Adrian Powers and Damien Power have been named among the 10 finalists in YouTube’s Your Film Festival. Their 15-minute short films were voted from among the 15,000 that entered the global competition. More than three million people watched the films. The two Aussies are now in the running to receive $US500,000 ($A478,354) to develop their films with the help of Scott and actor Michael Fassbender ( Inglourious Basterds, Prometheus). ‘‘These 10 finalists have achieved something quite remarkable and are all clearly talents to watch,’’ Scott says. ‘‘People may be surprised to know that making a short film is very difficult, but these filmmakers have all succeeded in realising their visions and I congratulate them on this achievement.’’ All 10 finalists will travel to the prestigious Venice Film Festival at the end of August. Their films will be screened in Venice in a special selection on September 2. The grand prize winner will be chosen from a jury that includes Scott and Fassbender.
