Mel and mum raise stakes on fam­ily tale

Grif­fith (pic­tured) has closed a deal to do an ex­tended sto­ry­line on the com­edy Rais­ing Hope, which is head­ing into sea­son three, Dead­line.com re­ports. She plays the mother of Sab­rina (Shan­non Wood­ward). Grif­fith will be joined by her mother Tippi He­dren, who will play her mother and Sab­rina’s grand­mother on the show. Grif­fith re­cently starred in Life­time’s pi­lot Amer­i­can House­wife, which didn’t go for­ward. In other US cast­ing news, Roswell’s Shiri Appleby has been cast in the sec­ond sea­son of HBO’s Emmy-nom­i­nated com­edy Girls. She plays Natalie, a new love in­ter­est for Han­nah’s (Lena Dun­ham) lover Adam Driver (Adam Sackler), who broke up with Han­nah in the first sea­son fi­nale.
