Wicked Stepmother 2pm, 7TWO PG. 1988. Vile footnote to the career of the great Bette Davis as an evil witch who moves in with a suburban family then mysteriously turns into the lovely Barbara Carrera. Reason for this unusual metamorphosis is that Davis fought with director Larry Cohen and walked out, leaving him to figure out how to end the story, though it looks like it was already beyond salvation.
Resident Evil: Apocalypse 8.30pm, Go! M. 2004. The zombies are back taking over Raccoon City so it looks like they’re going to have to nuke it. First though, genetically engineered fighting machine Mila Jovovich has to bring out non-zombiefied survivors. Video game sequel ramps up the stupidity without doing much for the thrills. Strictly for mouth breathers.
The Sum of All Fears 8.30pm, One M. 2002. Neo-Nazis develop a plan to engulf the Superbowl in a nuclear holocaust and finger the Russians for the culprits, thereby triggering World War III. Tom Clancy thriller comes to the screen with a rickety plot but, after 9/11, it will resonate well with viewers who now suspect this kind of stuff could happen. Earnest cast keeps it believable. Ben Affleck, Morgan Freeman.
Untouchable: The Drew Peterson Story 8.30pm, Showtime Premiere M. 2012. Based on the real tale of a police officer’s downfall. Rob Lowe plays the Chicago charmer who swears his wife left him for a another man, drawing national media attention when newspaper’s learn his third wife died mysteriously in a bathtub. Cara Buono, Kaley Cuoco.
The Perfect Host 8.30pm, Movie One M. 2010. On the run bank robber Clayne Crawford cons his way into an upmarket home where the owner is preparing a dinner party. Black comedy thriller with
Frasier favourite David Hyde Pierce as the owner of the house. Nick Tomnay directs.
