Gang up for musical hit
are encouraged to get their gangster on for the opening night of Neptune Theatre Company’s latest production, Guy and Dolls. Set against the backdrop of New York, the musical follows Nathan Detroit as he does his best to keep one short step ahead of the law. Desperate to make some money to fund his gambling habit, Nathan decides to put the squeeze on high-roller Sky Masterson. Nathan wagers that Sky won’t be able to talk virginal Salvation Army lass Sarah Brown into going on a date with him. As Sky tries to talk Sarah around, Nathan does his best to fend off his fiance, Miss Adelaide, who is growing increasingly frustrated with what has become a 14-year engagement to the slippery Mr Detroit. Directed by Wendy Fahey and choreographed by Cherie Goosey, the stellar cast of Neptune’s staging of the classic musical includes tenoriffic leading man Casey Fegan as Sky, Tammy Dundon as Sarah and Cherie Goosey as Adelaide. New faces include Leigh Harrison as Nathan and Jay Ahrens and Brock Dunstan as sidekicks Nicely Nicely Johnson and Bennie Southgate. Renowned ‘‘performance junkie’’ Fang the Labradoodle also features – her fifth role in a musical comedy. Fahey describes Guys and Dolls as a wonderful piece of theatre. ‘‘There is a reason why it is so enduring – the songs, the story, everything about the show is great,’’ she says. ‘‘We have a fantastic cast of regulars and newcomers, including Fang, who can’t get enough of the stage..’’ That score includes enduring favourites Luck Be a Lady Tonight, Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat, I’ve Never Been in Love Before and If I Were a Bell.
