US network embraces fantasy series
about blood-thirsty vampires. Angels and their centuries-old battle against evil could be the next big thing, with an Australian fantasy book series being tapped for TV. Jessica Shirvington’s Embrace series – about angels and fallen angels – is being adapted into a TV series in the US. US network CW has teamed with Steven Spielberg’s production company Amblin Television to create the supernatural/fantasy drama. Shirvington, the wife of champion athlete and Foxtel presenter Matt Shirvington (both pictured), couldn’t be happier. ‘‘I’m stoked,’’ she says. ‘‘The most exciting part is to be able to talk about it because it’s something I’ve had to keep under my hat and I’m not good at that at all.’’ The Embrace series follows the life of Violet Eden as she discovers she is a guardian angel, locked in an ancient battle between light and dark forces. First book in the series Embrace was published in 2010 by Hachette Australia and is followed by three other novels – Entice, Emblaze and Endless. Writers Bill Laurin and Glenn Davis will pen the Embrace TV series, which is being eyed for release next season in the US, according to entertainment website Deadline.com.
