US net­work em­braces fan­tasy se­ries

about blood-thirsty vam­pires. An­gels and their cen­turies-old bat­tle against evil could be the next big thing, with an Aus­tralian fan­tasy book se­ries be­ing tapped for TV. Jes­sica Shirv­ing­ton’s Em­brace se­ries – about an­gels and fallen an­gels – is be­ing adapted into a TV se­ries in the US. US net­work CW has teamed with Steven Spiel­berg’s pro­duc­tion com­pany Am­blin Tele­vi­sion to cre­ate the su­per­nat­u­ral/fan­tasy drama. Shirv­ing­ton, the wife of cham­pion ath­lete and Fox­tel pre­sen­ter Matt Shirv­ing­ton (both pic­tured), couldn’t be hap­pier. ‘‘I’m stoked,’’ she says. ‘‘The most ex­cit­ing part is to be able to talk about it be­cause it’s some­thing I’ve had to keep un­der my hat and I’m not good at that at all.’’ The Em­brace se­ries fol­lows the life of Vi­o­let Eden as she dis­cov­ers she is a guardian an­gel, locked in an an­cient bat­tle be­tween light and dark forces. First book in the se­ries Em­brace was pub­lished in 2010 by Ha­chette Aus­tralia and is fol­lowed by three other nov­els – En­tice, Em­blaze and End­less. Writ­ers Bill Lau­rin and Glenn Davis will pen the Em­brace TV se­ries, which is be­ing eyed for re­lease next sea­son in the US, ac­cord­ing to en­ter­tain­ment web­site Dead­line.com.
