DANIELA Ruah loves playing undercover roles in NCIS Los Angeles and spends hours at home on the computer doing her research. Ruah (pictured), who plays junior field agent Kensi Blye on the hit US crime drama uses the videosharing website YouTube as a back-up tool to study the traits of her characters. ‘‘In the episode we are shooting right now I am sitting at home watching YouTube videos of people doing different accents to try and pick up that twang in the voice . . . or facial expressions or see what the stereotypes are.’’ NCIS LA is Ruah’s first US series. Born in Boston, Ruah moved to Portugal when she was five and returned to the US in her early-20s, landing the role during her first pilot season. Although Ruah spends eight months of the year filming NCIS LA, she’s still keen to work in movies. She recently appeared in the George Lucas film Red Tails.

NCIS LA: Tuesdays, 9.30pm, Ten, Ten SC.
