Crooner in good form for classics

The Gold Coast Bulletin - Play Magazine - - WEDNESDAY EXTRA -

singers such as Michael Buble and Harry Connick Jr have reignited the world’s love affair with all things swing in recent years.

Performer Tom Burlinson (pictured) has perpetuated the trend for the past decade with renditions of Sinatra and other big band classics. Now the Aussie crooner brings his latest show, The Best of Tom Burlinson, to Twin Towns. After starring in his own production, Now We’re Swingin’, Burlinson developed The Best of Tom Burlinson – a mix of the best-loved songs from Sinatra classics, such as I’ve Got You Under My Skin, That’s Life and Night and Day, to Sammy Davis Jr’s It’s Got to Be Me and Mr Bojangles.

‘‘This show has all my favourite big band songs, as well as some different songs this time around,’’ he says.

‘‘I’ve included some Beatles, Billy Joel and Tom Jones, but we are putting the big band behind them to mix it up. They are my re-imagined jazzy versions, developed over a gradual process.’’

plays Twin Towns on Saturday, 8pm. Tickets $47.
