A boy’s ad­ven­ture with imag­i­nary buddy

comic Chris O’Dowd ( Brides­maids) stars in Moone Boy, a warm fam­ily com­edy se­ries about a young boy grow­ing up in a chaotic and cre­ative house­hold in late 1980s Ire­land. O’Dowd plays Sean, the imag­i­nary friend of 11-year-old Martin (David Rawle), the youngest child in the large and loud fam­ily. Sean nar­rates his ad­ven­tures. The se­ries opens with Martin cel­e­brat­ing his 12th birthday. His joy at get­ting a new bike quickly sours when it is trashed by the Bon­ner broth­ers. Out­raged that Martin is be­ing bul­lied, his fa­ther Liam (Peter McDon­ald) con­fronts Mr Bon­ner, but in­stead the pair strike up an un­likely friend­ship and Liam is wel­comed into a clan­des­tine sup­port group for dis­en­chanted fathers. O’Dowd penned, ex­ec­u­tive pro­duces and stars in the com­edy se­ries.
