Doctor does Christmas Scrooge-style
Who is transformed into a Scroogestyle miser in the sci-fi show’s festive special. The Timelord is joined by his new companion Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. Clara faces an uphill struggle to persuade the Doctor to venture out into the world and save it all over again. The show’s lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat says The Doctor at Christmas is one of his favourite things – but this year it’s different. ‘‘He’s lost Amy and Rory to the Weeping Angels. He’s not in a good place: in fact, he’s Scrooge,’’ he says. ‘‘He’s withdrawn from the world and no longer cares what happens to it. So when all of humanity hangs in the balance, can anyone persuade a tired and heartbroken Doctor that it’s time to return to the good fight?’’ The special, which airs in the UK on Christmas Day, stars Richard E. Grant as Doctor Simeon as the leader of an army of icy snowmen. Matt Smith (pictured), who plays the Doctor, says the episode will feature lizards, Victorian assassins and deranged warriors from the future, who all return to convince the Doctor that he should board the Tardis again and save the world.
