Stewart in Home and Away, which airs on Tuesday. It is followed by tripleheader episode on Wednesday – the last time Home and Away airs this year.

Having never wed, Graham says family and friends were shocked when he posted the on-screen wedding snaps on Facebook without explanation.

‘‘Friends they were saying ‘congratulations we thought it would never happen’,’’ Graham says.

Graham has played dozens of stage and screen characters including Lewis Caine in the original Underbelly series.

His acting career took off when he got the part of Wheels on the soapie E

in the late 1980s. People still call him Wheels though the role lasted four years, ending in 1993. The character, he says, must have stuck with people.

It’s also why he is surprised by Melissa George’s meltdown after being asked about Home and Away.

Graham politely rationalises her spin-out as possible ‘‘jetlag’’.

‘‘I missed it when it all happened, but it did surprise me,’’ he says.

‘‘Maybe they just got her on the wrong day or she had just got off the plane and had jetlag.’’

Graham’s credits include All Saints, The Secret Life of Us, Blue Heelers, Crownies and spin-off Janet King, which airs on the ABC next year.

He is launching his own theatre company Serious Boys in Sydney.

‘‘I get offered lots of theatre. I turned down four shows because I don’t have the time,’’ he says. ‘‘I’ve been working on an independent theatre company and spent a year rehearsing. I direct and find that rewarding.’’
