Aussie ac­tors take to stage

Awards night looms for the lo­cal film and TV in­dus­try, a time when the stars come out

THE AACTA Awards recog­nise the best of Aus­tralian film and tele­vi­sion. Tele­vi­sion new­comer Brenna Hard­ing star of Chan­nel 10’s Pu­berty Blues is nom­i­nated in the pres­ti­gious best young ac­tor cat­e­gory. Her ri­vals Ed Ox­en­bould ( Ju­lian), Saskia Rosendahl ( Lore) and Lo­gan new­comer Lily Sul­li­van ( Men­tal) all hail from the world of film.

Lachy Hulme’s per­for­mance in Howzat! earned him a nod for Best Ac­tor in a Tele­vi­sion Drama, against three ABC ac­tors – Richard Roxburgh for Rake, An­thony Hayes in Devil’s Dust and Jimi Bani for Mabo.

Best Ac­tress nominations are shared by Ash­leigh Cum­mings for Pu­berty Blues, Essie Davis for Miss Fisher’s Mur­der Mys­ter­ies, Susie Porter for Dan­ger­ous Rem­edy and Leah Pur­cell for Red­fern Now.

The AACTA Awards will be held at Syd­ney’s The Star Events Cen­tre on Jan­uary 30, 2013.
