shows: Dressing Roomers, with Kate Peters
A CAPACITY house filled the Paradise Showroom at The Arts Centre Gold Coast on Tuesday night for the fourth annual Gold Coast Area Theatre Awards. Guests certainly took every opportunity to dress to the nines for the occasion. A surprise soft shoe from veteran Jack Webster added to the glam opening number with emcee Ian Stenlake working with Kim Reynolds’ dancers in Razzle Dazzle. Celebrity guest Val Lehman worked her magic alongside a host of presenters to add to a terrific evening of theatre. Many shows were honoured and a terrific variety of productions received gongs.
YOURS Truly is in Sydney as you read this, catching a performance of the new stage hit Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The fun family musical with a fantasmagorical flying car stars Jenny Vuletic, Alan Brough, George Kapiniaris, Todd Goddard, Tyler Coppin and Rachael Beck.
RACHAEL Beck’s husband, raconteur and song and dance man Ian Stenlake, charmed a Showbiz Celebrity Lunch audience on the Gold Coast on Monday with tales of life upon the wicked stage, on TV and all points in between. The smart luncheon crowd were then treated to reminiscenses from Jack Webster and Prisoner’s Val Lehman, who was instrumental in pushing for many upgrades to actors’ contracts during her time on the longrunning Australian TV series.
GOLD Coast Triple Threat is an exciting opportunity for performers who have left school, are aged under 25 and want to study acting, singing and dancing full time on the Coast. GCTT’s full-time musical theatre course has run for the past three years at a Certificate IV level and will be upgraded to a Diploma in Musical Theatre in 2013. That means the course will attract fee relief – something which will assist students who have talent in the performing arts to develop a high level of skills under the guidance of industry professional tutors; help them secure places in sought-after courses or to successfully audition for work. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for details. GCTT will hold a free workshop on Saturday from 1pm to 3pm.
