Barnesy keen to keep exploring
looking forward to hitting the road for shows with Dragon and Bruce Springsteen in the new year, but in the meantime, rock great Jimmy Barnes is back on the Gold Coast for what’s sure to be a Christmas cracker! Barnes’ career as both a solo performer and frontman of Cold Chisel has made him one of the most popular and best-selling Australian music artists of all time. ‘‘Shit . . . I’ve got about 30 albums to my name now,’’ Barnes says, laughing. The consumate live performer Barnes has been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame twice – with Cold Chisel in 1993 and solo in October 2005. Barnes’ solo career has seen him explore everything from the blues to pop and even dance music, but he says there are still things he’s keen to explore on future albums. ‘‘I’d love to do a tribute to Howlin’ Wolf. I just love him and that’s something I’ve got in the back of my head at the moment. And I’d probably like to do a country record one day.’’
Jimmy Barnes plays Twin Towns tonight at 8pm (Qld time).
