Mastin ready to party
REECE Mastin can’t wait to catch up with his L’il Rockers when he plays the Gold Coast this weekend.
‘‘We’re going to party and have a crazy time,’’ he says.
‘‘The L’il Rockers are what I call my fans,’’ he says.
‘‘They’re great, crazy, though sometimes a little hard to manage. We have a lot of fun.’’
The X Factor 2011 winner, touring his second studio album Beautiful Nightmare, launched his Summer Nights regional tour in Townsville and is travelling down the east coast.
‘‘Last night we played this old-school rock venue where bands like Midnight Oil and Cold Chisel played. It was sweet to play in a place with so much history,’’ he says of first stop, Townsville.
Gigs in Mackay, Gladstone, Bundaberg and Caloundra follow before he lands at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on Sunday.
‘‘We’ve just had our first stop of the day for brekkie and now we’re on the bus again. It’s a luxury five-seater, so everyone has their own row, which is sick,’’ Mastin says.
Mastin’s actress girlfriend, Home and Away’s Rhiannon Fish, joins him when work permits and will be on the Coast on Sunday.
The couple met filming the clip for Mastin’s single Shout It Out and share an apartment. Mastin joined Fish and her family for a holiday on the Coast between Christmas and New Year.
‘‘I got pretty sunburned. One day, we hit Wet & Wild. That was a lot of fun. We went to this awesome place called Infinity which is full of lights. It was kind of trippy. For a bit there, I got a bit scared,’’ Mastin says.
Mastin sets a cracking pace with 17 gigs in 20 days before he heads to New Zealand for seven more, his first in the beachside town of Hamilton on St Valentine’s Day. Mastin is still unsure whether work commitments will allow Fish to join him there.
Mastin, 18, has been writing songs since he was 12 and says he’s been writing more for a new album.
‘‘The new album? I’m writing it right now. When the tour’s done, I have to pop over to LA again. That’s when I get to work, work them up some more.’’
Reece Mastin, Justice Crew and The Janoskians play a sold-out show at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on Sunday.
