Steven Spielberg directs double Oscar-winner Daniel Day-Lewis as US President Abraham Lincoln in a backroom political drama depicting the cut and thrust surrounding the abolition of slavery and the close of the US Civil War.

They say: The most-nominated film of the 2013 Oscars (though tipped to, undeservingly, win few), it has enjoyed exceptional box-office for an historical drama at home in the US.

Wesay: Sets new standards for transportive period dramas and provides an electrifying glimpse of politics conducted in an era without electricity, combustion engines or globalisation. Hugely recommended. (Report, Page 12.) Running time 153 minutes. Screens at Robina, Pacific Fair, Australia Fair, Coolangatta, Tweed City, The Arts Centre Gold Coast, Harbour Town, Nerang.
