Time to go troppo over raft of short films
the world’s largest short film festival, will be broadcast live on the big screen at Circle on Cavill, in Surfers Paradise, on Sunday. Held at The Domain, in Sydney, Tropfest is beamed at live sites around the country, with Trop Jr from 7.30pm before the main broadcast at 8.30pm. Free-to-air TV station SBS will also screen Tropfest live for the first time. Founded by John Polson in 1993 as a small screening for family and friends at the Tropicana Caffe in Sydney’s Kings Cross, Tropfest now receives 700 entries each year and has expanded to cities including London, Berlin, New York and Abu Dhabi. Australian actor Sam Worthington ( Avatar) returns home from Hollywood to join this year’s judging panel alongside Rebecca Gibney, Gyton Grantley and Magda Szubanski. Worthington won a Tropfest best actor award in 2001 and has entered several short films of his own over the years.
