Time to go troppo over raft of short films

the world’s largest short film fes­ti­val, will be broad­cast live on the big screen at Cir­cle on Cav­ill, in Surfers Par­adise, on Sun­day. Held at The Do­main, in Syd­ney, Tropfest is beamed at live sites around the coun­try, with Trop Jr from 7.30pm be­fore the main broad­cast at 8.30pm. Free-to-air TV sta­tion SBS will also screen Tropfest live for the first time. Founded by John Pol­son in 1993 as a small screen­ing for fam­ily and friends at the Trop­i­cana Caffe in Syd­ney’s Kings Cross, Tropfest now re­ceives 700 en­tries each year and has ex­panded to cities in­clud­ing Lon­don, Berlin, New York and Abu Dhabi. Aus­tralian ac­tor Sam Worthington ( Avatar) re­turns home from Hol­ly­wood to join this year’s judg­ing panel along­side Re­becca Gib­ney, Gy­ton Grant­ley and Magda Szuban­ski. Worthington won a Tropfest best ac­tor award in 2001 and has en­tered sev­eral short films of his own over the years.

Tropfest 2013 screens live on the big screen at Cir­cle on Cav­ill, Surfers Par­adise, on Sun­day from 7.30pm.
