Spotlight’s musical made for Peanuts ....................
CREATING a quality theatre show that is entertaining for kids and adults is not an easy task.
However, the story
and structure of You’re a Good Man, Charlie
Brown rises to the challenge.
Based on the Charles M. Schulz comic strip, with music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, the character of Charlie Brown explored a new avenue in comics: a real person, with a real psyche and real problems. The reader knew him, knew his fears and understood his sense of inferiority and alienation.
Spotlight Theatrical Company opens its 2013 Main Theatre season with the celebrated characters of Schulz’s comic strip
Peanuts in a classical musical form.
The show stars Bryn Jenke as Charlie Brown, with Emily Monsma as Lucy, Jordan Baldon Vine as Schroeder, Luke Perring as Linus, Courtney Monsma as Sally Brown and Clay English as Snoopy.
Singers and dancers round out the cast with musical director Liam Cruz leading the professional ensemble of musicians, including Rochelle De Snoo as Woodstock.
Darryl Vine directs, with choreography by Bradley Wilmshurst.
Spotlight has chosen the award-winning Broadway revival version of You’re A Good Man,
Charlie Brown, which snapshots Schulz at his best: Schroeder and Lucy at the piano, Charlie Brown and Lucy at the psychiatry booth, Linus with his blanket, Snoopy with his supper dish, and the whole gang at the baseball game.
The characters live the moments of a child’s life – progressing from wild optimism to utter despair, from a bright, uncertain morning to a hopeful, starlit evening.
Bryn Jenke stars as Charlie Brown in Spotlight’s 2013 season opener, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.
