band credited with putting humour – and hair – back into music play the Gold Coast this weekend before they head overseas to show off their style at South By Southwest. Fans can look forward to hearing tunes from across The Beards’ catalogue, including Got Me A Beard from the album Having A Beard Is The New Not Having A Beard. The Beards fuse folk-rock sounds with tounge-in-cheek lyrics – most of them about the advantages of having a beard. The quartet – Johann Beardraven, John Beardman Jr, Nathaniel Beard and Facey McStubblington – formed in 2005 for a one-off show and have since released three albums. Crowd favourites from their catalogue include If Your Dad Doesn’t Have a Beard,You’ve Got Two Mums, You Should Consider Sex with a Bearded Man and No Beard, No Good. The Beards join 42 fellow Aussies – including 360, Ball Park Music, Emma Louise, Flume, Havana Brown, Jonathan Boulet, Papa Vs. Pretty, The Rubens and The Audreys – at South By Southwest, in Austin, Texas, from March 12-17 before they return home to play the Byron Bay Bluesfest, from March 28 to April 1.
