in 1947, Arlo Guthrie’s fa­ther, folk le­gend Woody, gave him his first gui­tar when he was six and grew up sur­rounded by his fa­ther’s friends, such as Pete Seeger, Sonny Terry and Brownie. ‘‘What I learned as a kid came from peo­ple who had been trans­fer­ring sto­ries . . . long be­fore there was recorded mu­sic,’’ he says. Guthrie, best known for the tracks Alice’s Restau­rant, Coming into Los An­ge­les and City of New Or­leans, is tour­ing Aus­tralia with hus­band and wife duo, daugh­ter Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion.

Arlo Guthrie plays Twin Towns on Tues­day at 8pm. Tick­ets are $55.
