Apartments, a black comedy which features Australian comic Rebel Wilson (pictured) among its massive ensemble cast, screens at Byron Community Centre on Sunday as the closing night feature of the 2103 Byron Bay Film Festival. Swedish filmmaker Jonas Kerlund directs the film, adapted from Chris Mills’ novel, winner of a Canadian three-day novel contest back in the year 2000. Inside his rundown flat on the south side of Los Angeles, Franklin Franklin ( Little Britain’s Matt Lucas) dreams of spooning with his mighty alphorn deep in the tall grass beside a clear, alpine lake in the perfect nation of Switzerland. The only problem is, Franklin has just killed his landlord, Mr Olivetti (Peter Stormare) and needs to figure out how to get away with it. Complicating Franklin’s plans are neighbours and characters played by Johnny Knoxville, James Caan, Saffron Burrows and Juno Temple, Billy Crystal, James Marsden and Dolph Lundgren. The Byron Bay Film Festival screenings continue at the Byron Community Centre; The Pighouse Flicks, Byron Surf Club, Lismore’s Star Court Theatre and Murwillumbah’s Regent Cinemas from today until Sunday.
