The Gold Coast Bulletin - Play Magazine - - TELEVISION -

and current affairs show Living Black celebrates its 10th anniversary by shifting to a station many may say is its rightful home. The show, producing stories to inform and educate indigenous audiences, will air each Tuesday on National Indigenous Television (NITV), with repeats weekly on Fridays and Sundays on SBS.

The programming switch was made after NITV came under SBS management in mid-2012 Living Black host and executive producer Karla Grant (pictured) could not be happier about the move.

‘‘The whole transition has gone very well,’’ she says. ‘‘We will be reaching a lot more people and our target audience. We’ll be reaching out to them (NITV viewers) and also our SBS audience won’t suffer either because they can still see us on SBS.’’

Unlike shows on the commercial networks, Living Black does not have a huge budget. Three video journalists compile all the stories and do everything themselves on the road.

‘‘They have to be the journalist, the sound person and the camera person all in one. They don’t have the luxury of a crew or any back-up to support them,’’ Grant says.

Tuesdays from March 12, 7.30pm, NITV.
