Wakefield breaks away
Home and Away star Rhys Wakefield (pictured) has reportedly scored a role on a new US TV pilot starring Breaking Bad actress Anna Gunn. The Queensland-born actor has been cast in Rita as one of Gunn’s on-screen teenage children, according to industry website Deadline.com. Rita is an adaptation of the Danish format of the same name and is the project of Grey’s Anatomy executive producer Krista Vernoff. Described as an edgy and funny family drama, Rita follows an outspoken private school teacher (Gunn) who struggles to raise her own three teenage children while dealing with the inane bureaucracy and overprotective parents at her school. Wakefield played Lucas Holden in Home and Away from 2005 to 2008. His other credits include the award-winning Australian film The Black Balloon, and the James Cameron executive produced adventure film Sanctum.
