AC­TRESS An­gela Bas­sett’s role in new ac­tion thriller Olym­pus Has Fallen was orig­i­nally writ­ten for a man. The Mal­colm X star por­trays Se­cret Ser­vice Di­rec­tor Lynn Ja­cobs in the movie, about a fic­tional ter­ror­ist kid­nap­ping of the US pres­i­dent. Bas­sett says she would never have landed the job had di­rec­tor An­toine Fuqua not de­cided to go against the screen­writer’s orig­i­nal sug­ges­tion to keep in line with the law en­force­ment agency’s his­tory of male bosses. ‘‘There’s never been a fe­male di­rec­tor of the Se­cret Ser­vice, ever,’’ she says. ‘‘It’s only a mat­ter of time, so it was a won­der­ful cast­ing de­ci­sion that our di­rec­tor An­toine Fuqua made.’’

Olym­pus Has Fallen opens on April 18.
