Glee cast back Cory in re­hab

MARK Salling has com­mended his Glee cast­mate Cory Mon­teith for check­ing him­self into re­hab. The ac­tors star along­side each other on the hit TV mu­si­cal se­ries.

Af­ter Mon­teith con­firmed through a rep­re­sen­ta­tive that he had en­tered a treat­ment fa­cil­ity for sub­stance ad­dic­tion, Salling ap­plauded his brav­ery.

‘‘It takes balls to go through that pri­vately, but to go through it pub­licly like that – balls,’’ Salling tells Us Weekly.

He and the cast and crew of Glee send Mon­teith ‘‘nice texts’’ and en­cour­ag­ing tweets ‘‘here and there’’.

Glee’s cre­ator Murphy Ryan sup­ports the ac­tor’s de­ci­sion to fo­cus on his so­bri­ety de­spite any glitches his ab­sence may cause for pro­duc­tion.

‘‘I am so proud of Cory Mon­teith and love and sup­port him 100 per cent,’’ the pro­ducer tweets to 434,000-plus fol­low­ers.

Mon­teith’s girl­friend and Glee co-star Lea Michele also sup­ports the ac­tor.

‘‘I love and sup­port Cory and will stand by him through this,’’ Michele tells Peo­ple mag­a­zine. ‘‘I am grate­ful and proud he made this de­ci­sion.’’ The Cana­dian ac­tor and mu­si­cian has been can­did about his bat­tle with sub­stance abuse in the past.

He en­tered re­hab for the first time at age of 19 and two years ago broke his si­lence in a bid to help oth­ers shar­ing his strug­gle.

‘‘I don’t want kids to think it’s OK to drop out of school and get high,’’ he said in 2011.
