BRISBANE tribute band Killer Queen, featuring John Blunt (pictured) as Freddie Mercury, return to the Gold Coast this month. Killer Queen, which has been performing for almost 10 years, has toured extensively in Australia and overseas. The group has performed on Channel 7’s Australia’s Got Talent and Blunt appeared as Mercury on a French television show with an audience of more than seven million viewers. Blunt has even had removable veneer teeth made to perfect his role as the celebrity lookalike. The fully costumed Killer Queen show goes for more than two hours, and, of course, includes Queen hits such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Little Thing Called Love and We Are the Champions. Blunt says it takes him about half an hour to get his hair and make-up right and seeing himself done up still ‘‘freaks me out’’. ‘‘I look at myself and think ‘what the hell is going on?’,’’ he says.

Killer Queen play RSL Southport on May 18 at 8pm. Tickets are $10 members; $15 guests.
