MATT Ward’s sec­ond out­ing of The Green­room Pro­ject plays The Base­ment, at The Arts Cen­tre Gold Coast, on Mon­day night. Ward has a ster­ling lineup of tal­ent to show­case – Charne Louise ( Big Brother house­mate 2012 and Drac­ula’s Theatre Restau­rant star); Rebecca Gren­nan (from the en­sem­ble of The Boy From Oz, with Hugh Jack­man); Jaque­lyn Point­ing (Tracy Turn­blad in Spot­light’s stag­ing of Hairspray); Bianca De Zilva (the lead in last year’s stag­ing of Fame by NAPA); and Matt Yates (from the en­sem­ble of Ig­na­tians Mu­sic So­ci­ety’s Sweeney Todd,). The men­tors are Yours Truly, Amanda Har­ri­son ( Wicked, We Will Rock You, An Of­fi­cer & a Gen­tle­man) and Glenn T (pro­fes­sional theatre di­rec­tor, pro­ducer, char­ac­ter ac­tor, play­wright and film/TV pro­duc­tion de­signer, with Brad Rush on baby grand pi­ano. Tick­ets are still avail­able from the Arts Cen­tre box of­fice.

OPEN­ING this week are Phoenix En­sem­ble’s Reefer Mad­ness (from to­mor­row un­til June 15); Spot­light’s The Drowsy Chap­er­one (from to­mor­row un­til May 17 to June 8); Tu­gun Theatre’s Not Now Dar­ling (from tonight un­til May 25); and Dou­ble­mask Youth Theatre Co’s Magic And Mys­ti­cism In Suburbia at Mur­willumbh Civic Cen­tre.

LOVERS of rock ’n roll will want to get along to A Sidesplit­ters’ Fundraiser at Broadbeach Bowls Club on May 25 from 7pm. Sidesplit­ters is a club for past and present male en­ter­tain­ers and mu­si­cians that reg­u­larly raises money for mu­sos who have fallen on hard times. This bash will fea­ture Cat­fish and The Dee­jays, a well-loved rock and roll out­fit that has been play­ing the Gold Coast for some time. Cat­fish was the orig­i­nal drum­mer from Johnny O’Keefe’s band. The Jon Skye Band will also per­form. Tick­ets are $8.

SPOT­LIGHT’S raises the cur­tain on one of the best loved of con­tem­po­rary mu­si­cals, The Drowsy Chap­er­one, to­mor­row night. (See re­port, Page 7.) In the com­pany’s tra­di­tion of pre­sent­ing new and ex­cit­ing pro­duc­tions, this is well worth see­ing. Kelly Wight-Riker, daugh­ter of lo­cal ac­tress Val Cooney, played the lead fe­male in a big pro­duc­tion of the show in Las Vegas re­cently. She’s on the Coast this week and will be in the au­di­ence on open­ing night. Call 5539 4255 to book.

KIM Reynolds has fi­nalised the cast for her forth­com­ing pro­duc­tion of the 1960s mu­si­cal Hair at Spot­light. Well known lo­cal names in the show in­clude Sean Cur­ran, Scott Muller, Alana Tier­ney, Dave D’Arcy, Greta Brins­ley, Clay English, Amy Church, Jess Purdy and Hay­ley Green. Award-win­ning chore­og­ra­pher Paolo Na­tivi­dad is as­sis­tant chore­og­ra­pher.

THE July school hol­i­day pan­tomime Snow White and The Seven Dwarves, pre­sented by Top Hat Pro­duc­tions, be­gan re­hearsals this week and prom­ises to be a blast!
