Them’s the breaks

The Gold Coast Bulletin - Play Magazine - - SHOWS -

FEATURING a quirky cardboard set and likeable characters, Escape from the Breakup Forest will to lead its audience into the depths of aching heartbreak and an interesting recovery. The comedy was written by Toowoomba-based Steve Pirie and will launch the The Arts Centre Gold Coast’s 2013 Inaugural Independent Season tonight. Escape from the Breakup Forest – an indie theatre production – follows the story of Josh, a heartbroken lad who is trying to get over his first love, Emma. As Josh battles that hollow feeling in the chest, his world shrinks to an existence of floor-based cereal dinners and trying not to punch co-workers in the face. Guided by his spirit puppet Curly, Josh embarks on a journey through the breakup forest. Starring Steve Pirie, Ell Sachs and Dan Stewart, Escape from the Breakup Forest is directed by Claire Christian and Ari Palani and is all about getting over yourself.

Escape from the Breakup Forest opens tonight and plays The Space, at The Arts Centre Gold Coast, Thursdays to Saturdays at 7.30pm until June 1. Visit theartscentregc.com.au to book.
