Cooly turns on rock­ing fun

IT’S time to turn back the clock and put your best retro danc­ing shoes on – Cooly Rocks On, the Gold Coast’s own 1950s and ’60s-themed nos­tal­gia fes­ti­val, be­gins to­mor­row.

An ex­ten­sive col­lec­tion of vin­tage and clas­sic cars, in­clud­ing hot rods, cruis­ers and coupes, will be on dis­play, with more than 50 rock ’n’ roll bands and per­form­ers – in­clud­ing The Jets, Si Cranstoun, Lucky Starr, The In­va­sion and Roland Storm – per­form­ing as part of the 11-day event.

Starr and Denise Drys­dale (pic­tured) are the of­fi­cial am­bas­sadors for this year’s event.

Venues in­clude the Coolan­gatta Ho­tel, the Sands Ho­tel and the Dol­phin Ho­tel and lo­cal clubs Twin Towns, South Tweed Sports, Seag­ulls, Coolan­gatta and Tweed Heads Golf Club.

The fes­ti­val will in­clude, for the first time, a spe­cial ‘‘surf precinct’’ at Kirra fo­cus­ing on ’60s surf mu­sic, a dis­play of clas­sic ve­hi­cles and a Mal­ibu com­pe­ti­tion.
