Cooly turns on rocking fun
IT’S time to turn back the clock and put your best retro dancing shoes on – Cooly Rocks On, the Gold Coast’s own 1950s and ’60s-themed nostalgia festival, begins tomorrow.
An extensive collection of vintage and classic cars, including hot rods, cruisers and coupes, will be on display, with more than 50 rock ’n’ roll bands and performers – including The Jets, Si Cranstoun, Lucky Starr, The Invasion and Roland Storm – performing as part of the 11-day event.
Starr and Denise Drysdale (pictured) are the official ambassadors for this year’s event.
Venues include the Coolangatta Hotel, the Sands Hotel and the Dolphin Hotel and local clubs Twin Towns, South Tweed Sports, Seagulls, Coolangatta and Tweed Heads Golf Club.
The festival will include, for the first time, a special ‘‘surf precinct’’ at Kirra focusing on ’60s surf music, a display of classic vehicles and a Malibu competition.
