VAL Lehman (pictured) has joined the cast of upcoming stage musical Grease. Lehman, 70, best known as villain Bea Smith in ’80s TV drama Prisoner, will play the strict principal who disapproves of close dancing at the school prom. ‘‘Val Lehman will be the ideal Miss Lynch,’’ says Grease producer John Frost. ‘‘Wentworth Detention Centre’s top dog, Bea Smith, is now Rydell High School’s tough principal, Miss Lynch.’’ Lehman’s theatre credits include A Streetcar Named Desire, The Wizard Of Oz, Chicago and Oklahoma, with West End turns in Lady Chatterley’s Lover, Driving Miss Daisy and Steel Magnolias. Grease also stars Rob Mills as Danny and Gretel Scarlett as Sandy, with Bert Newton as veteran DJ Vince Fontaine. Other big names include Todd McKenney, Anthony Callea, Lucy Maunder and Stephen Mahy.
Grease plays the Lyric Theatre, at QPAC, in Brisbane, from August 20.
