VAL Lehman (pic­tured) has joined the cast of up­com­ing stage mu­si­cal Grease. Lehman, 70, best known as vil­lain Bea Smith in ’80s TV drama Pris­oner, will play the strict prin­ci­pal who dis­ap­proves of close danc­ing at the school prom. ‘‘Val Lehman will be the ideal Miss Lynch,’’ says Grease pro­ducer John Frost. ‘‘Went­worth De­ten­tion Cen­tre’s top dog, Bea Smith, is now Ry­dell High School’s tough prin­ci­pal, Miss Lynch.’’ Lehman’s theatre cred­its in­clude A Street­car Named De­sire, The Wizard Of Oz, Chicago and Ok­la­homa, with West End turns in Lady Chat­ter­ley’s Lover, Driv­ing Miss Daisy and Steel Mag­no­lias. Grease also stars Rob Mills as Danny and Gre­tel Scar­lett as Sandy, with Bert New­ton as vet­eran DJ Vince Fon­taine. Other big names in­clude Todd McKen­ney, An­thony Cal­lea, Lucy Maun­der and Stephen Mahy.

Grease plays the Lyric Theatre, at QPAC, in Bris­bane, from Au­gust 20.
