Taylor and Marc Bicer play Palm Beach Currumbin State High School Theatre on Saturday night. DAVE Taylor, frontman for local folk quartet Taylor, is ready to put the past to bed – in the form of a documented album. A reflection of a dark period in Dave’s life, the band’s new record To Bed With You is at times confronting and beautifully honest. ‘‘It’s not extremely dark or depressing. There are light spots and there are sides that can make you smile,’’ says Dave. ‘‘The concept behind the album is pretty straightforward. There is a sense of loss. It has to do with letting go of the past and putting that to bed.’’ Being honest with his lyrics is something that comes easy to Dave. ‘‘I have found that’s what people find appealing about my music – the fact it is honest,’’ he says. ‘‘When I write it tends to be about real events and that’s appealing to people. It’s like a diary in a sense. It’s therapeutic. So is the release of this record. I’m ready to start a whole new chapter of my life and focus on what’s next.’’ Taylor’s debut album Warmer featured a collection of songs written while Dave was living and travelling overseas. As To Bed With You ‘‘represents a singular time’’, Dave has taken a different approach to the record’s structure. ‘‘ Warmer went on an organic route, there’s no smoke and mirrors on that record,’’ he says. ‘‘This album is such a different album. We had fun when we recorded and we tried new things. It’s a more polished and produced sound – in a good way.’’ Dave predicts the album preview show this weekend will be intimate and intense. ‘‘There’s a theatrical side to our music,’’ he says. ‘‘We’ll be filming the show to make a DVD. We have a few surprises in store.’’
