Monsters University

The once-untouchable Pixar reaches back into its catalogue for this prequel to the adorable 2001 hit Monsters Inc, which casts misunderstood monsters, living in kids’ wardrobes, as the heroes. They say: A return to form for Pixar, and one of the studio’s funniest films yet, according to most critics, with the naysayers acknowledging the quality of the gags while still missing the creative edge Pixar was founded on. Wesay: Entertaining and very colourful, which makes us feel a bit curmudgeonly griping about Pixar’s lost ‘‘soul’’, but they’re now deep enough in sequel territory to make the point moot. Directed by Dan Scanlon (debut). Running time 107 minutes. Screens at Tweed City, Nerang, Harbour Town, Pacific Fair, Australia Fair, Robina, Coolangatta, Yatala Drive-in.
