Pete (Cameron Wallaby) lives with his grandpa (David Gulpilil) on the site of an abandoned outdoor cinema in remote Western Australia. He makes the most of it, listening to the old man’s stories and learning to hunt and track, but wishes his mum would come back. When a mining company moves in and orders the cinema demolished, Pete fears Mum won’t be able to find them. He recruits a friend to join him on a long trip to the city to plead his case. They say: Worthy and unapologetic coming-of-age tale directed and penned by Catriona McKenzie ( Redfern Now) filmed against the remote and scenic Bungle Bungles. Wesay: Gulpilil revisits the themes of his breakthrough film Walkabout from the view of man. Sight unseen it’s tough to call. Definitely work a look so you can decide for yourself. Running time 90 minutes. Screens at The Arts Centre Gold Coast.
