A THIRD series of Winners & Losers opens with the girls struggling to come to grips with more ups and downs in life. The besties expect new mum Bec (Zoe Tuckwell-Smith) to fall apart after the death of Matt (Blair McDonough). While her torment is clear, she shows no overt sign of grief – even at the funeral. Jenny (Melissa Bergland) adjusts to family life in the wake of the bombshell that there is a new Gross sibling, Sam McKenzie (Katherine Hicks), a daughter from Brian’s previous relationship. The Gross house vibe has changed markedly, their freewheeling banter replaced with a forced politeness as they adjust to the newcomer. Sam, meanwhile, is keen to get to know her biological father and half siblings and mend her relationship with her mother. Sophie (Melanie Vallejo) has planned to postpone her trip to Kenya after the death but Bec insists she go. When Doug (Tom Wren) gives her no reason to stay, Sophie heads to Nairobi with no return date. Despite protestations to the contrary, events have also deeply affected France (Virginia Gay).
