Aussie de­signer lands Pro­ject Run­way chal­lenge

AN Aus­tralian con­tes­tant Ben­jamin Mach (pic­tured left) com­petes against some of Amer­ica’s best de­sign­ers in a bid to win Pro­ject Run­way. ‘‘Be­ing cho­sen to join Pro­ject Run­way as the first fea­tured Aus­tralian de­signer was an ab­so­lute hon­our,’’ says Mach from Syd­ney. ‘‘It was a unique ex­pe­ri­ence that I will al­ways re­mem­ber.’’ Mach is a well-rounded de­signer whose work has graced the run­ways of Syd­ney, Lon­don, Paris, Madrid and Mi­ami. Af­ter grad­u­at­ing from The Syd­ney In­sti­tute of Tech­nol­ogy – Fash­ion De­sign Stu­dio he started show­ing his own line at Aus­tralian Fash­ion Week, then moved to Lon­don to work with such brands as March­esa, Win­tle and the Span­ish label Roberto Tor­retta. Mach is based in New York. He com­petes in the 11th se­ries of Pro­ject Run­way, which for the first time pits its 16 de­signer con­tes­tants in a teams com­pe­ti­tion. De­sign­ers work to­gether while en­sur­ing their own gar­ments stand out on the run­way. They vie to win cash, a fash­ion spread, car and the chance to de­sign an ex­clu­sive col­lec­tion. Su­per­star Heidi Klum and men­tor Tim Gunn are back. Guest judges from the world of film, tele­vi­sion and mu­sic in­clude the leg­endary Bette Mi­dler, Os­car win­ner Su­san Saran­don, Gram­my­win­ning singer song­writer John Le­gend, red­car­pet fash­ion ex­perts Joan and Melissa Rivers and ac­tresses Emmy Ros­sum, Kristin Davis and Jor­dana Brewster.
