Aussie designer lands Project Runway challenge
AN Australian contestant Benjamin Mach (pictured left) competes against some of America’s best designers in a bid to win Project Runway. ‘‘Being chosen to join Project Runway as the first featured Australian designer was an absolute honour,’’ says Mach from Sydney. ‘‘It was a unique experience that I will always remember.’’ Mach is a well-rounded designer whose work has graced the runways of Sydney, London, Paris, Madrid and Miami. After graduating from The Sydney Institute of Technology – Fashion Design Studio he started showing his own line at Australian Fashion Week, then moved to London to work with such brands as Marchesa, Wintle and the Spanish label Roberto Torretta. Mach is based in New York. He competes in the 11th series of Project Runway, which for the first time pits its 16 designer contestants in a teams competition. Designers work together while ensuring their own garments stand out on the runway. They vie to win cash, a fashion spread, car and the chance to design an exclusive collection. Superstar Heidi Klum and mentor Tim Gunn are back. Guest judges from the world of film, television and music include the legendary Bette Midler, Oscar winner Susan Sarandon, Grammywinning singer songwriter John Legend, redcarpet fashion experts Joan and Melissa Rivers and actresses Emmy Rossum, Kristin Davis and Jordana Brewster.
Project Runway: Wednesdays from August 7, 8.30pm, Arena.
