X Factor’s Ruffo wants to be like Mike

The Gold Coast Bulletin - Play Magazine - - TELEVISION -

POP singer Johnny Ruffo (pictured) is a perfectionist. With a swag of about 40 songs under his belt the former X Factor finalist and current Home and Away star could release an album any day now but he wants to get it just right. ‘‘I’d rather write 100 different songs just to pick the best 10 or 12,’’ he says. ‘‘ . . . I‘d rather take 12 to 18 months to write the album and record it and get it perfect.’’ Ruffo has just released his third upbeat single, Untouchable. He cites Stevie Wonder and Queen as influences but no one more so than pop icon Michael Jackson. ‘‘Not only as a musician but as an entertainer and performer,’’ he says. ‘‘He was always striving to be better at what he did and I try and take that same approach. ‘‘I always want to get better at writing music, I always want to get better at performing and I always want to get better at dancing.’’ Ruffo flies into Queensland today to meet fans at Westfield Garden City, Brisbane.
