Judge ready to share X Factor

The Gold Coast Bulletin - Play Magazine - - TELEVISION -

ANY X Factor finalist who gels with new judge Redfoo can expect a helping hand from the LMFAO showman. There’s also every chance Redfoo will collaborate on a song with one of his X Factor pupils, he says.

The LA-based singer, dancer and DJ is one of two new judges on the popular reality talent show, which returns on Monday.

Redfoo replaces Guy Sebastian while celebrity Danni Minogue replaces former Spice Girl Mel B on the latest season of X Factor.

‘‘Anybody I strike a connection with, I will most definitely work with them and partner up on some music,’’ he says.

‘‘I am always trying to help people achieve their dreams and if the situation is right and they’re into it and there’s a gel, a connection, for sure.

‘‘Everybody I have touring with me is someone I have met along the way.’’

Redfoo was hesitant to join a TV talent show judging panel, until the X Factor’s format was explained to him.

He says the chance to mentor and coach singers caught his attention, as did the fact he would compete with judges Minogue, Ronan Keating and Natalie Bassingthwaighte.

A warning to the other judges – Redfoo has a massive competitive streak, which extends well outside music.

In June, he tried to qualify for the 2013 US Tennis Open by playing a sectional qualifying tournament in California but was bundled out in straight sets in the opening round. The fact his girlfriend is the former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka should help his tennis.

‘‘I thought the X Factor was about judging but then they said it was about coaching and mentoring and competing with the other judges and I’m thinking . . . I can win as well,’’ he laughs.

Redfoo considers his role on the X Factor as less judge or mentor, more entertainment doctor who prescribes the right tonic for the performers.

He pumps up contestants who lack confidence and irons out those with talent but not the right attitude.

‘‘You have people who are talented but they are dealing with confidence issues and then you have people who are confident with work ethic issues.’’

Right now Redfoo is putting the finishing touches on a new album before he returns to Australia for the live X Factor shows.

X Factor: Monday to Thursday, 7.30pm, Seven, Prime7.
