Times start now for talented Teale
GOLD Coast singer and songwriter Teale Jakubenko launches his debut EP at an intimate show at The Arts Centre Gold Coast on Saturday night.
The independently recorded five-tracker Good Times Start Right Now features songs inspired by Jakubenko’s experiences since he won a large and loyal legion of fans as a Top 4 finalist on TV talent series Australian Idol back in 2008.
Eager to ‘‘move on’’ to the next phase of his career as a musician, Jakubenko says feels more confident and grounded as an artist now since connecting to his true music style.
‘‘In a lot of ways, this EP has been a long time coming but it has taken me until now to have the confidence and maturity to become the artist I want to be,’’ he says.
‘‘I think people will really relate to the more soulful rock sound of the album.’’ Good Times Start Right Now was born from Teale’s experiences during the past five years and a recent songwriting tour which saw him collaborate with renowned artists such as Southern Sons and Small Mercies.
Jakubenko has honed his material at live shows throughout Australia and overseas alongside acts including Good Charlotte, Evermore and Thirsty Merc – from sporting events to charity gigs. He says he is more focused than ever – as the depth of his lyrics reflects. ‘‘I didn’t want an album full of love songs,’’ he says.
‘‘It is not the type of artist I want to be. I really focused on creating my own unique sound and style, honing my songwriting skills and getting more experience performing live, before I released this album.’’
Jakubenko says he’s sharpened his performances by playing as many acoustic gigs as possible.
‘‘I think you’re on a winner with a song that sounds good acoustic,’’ he says.
‘‘If you have people engaged with a live acoustic song, when you add the whole band it just takes it to another level. I’m really excited about getting out on stage at the launch and showcasing that.’’
Good Times Start Right Now is available on ITunes from Saturday. Teale Jakubenko and Pat Tierney play The Basement, The Arts Centre Gold Coast, Saturday at 7pm. Tickets $20.
