BABY ET LULU’S FRENCH TWIST

The Gold Coast Bulletin - Play Magazine - - FRONT PAGE -

OOH la la! Baby et Lulu, aka musical mates Abby Dobson and Lara Goodridge, present themselves with outrageous, fake accents and fine French songs that are sure to add champagne fizz to the menu at this weekend’s Broadbeach Jazz Festival. Dobson, of Leonardo’s Bride fame, and violinist/vocalist Goodridge make a formidable team as they unleash an array of classic Gallic tunes, backed by a tremendous band. Hits at this year’s Adelaide Cabaret Festival, they have a tongue-in-cheek rapport and their voices blend beautifully as they roll out hits by everyone from Charles Aznavour to Serge Gainsbourg. Sets reportedly stick close to the French canon and include such favourites as Padam Padam, forever associated with Edith Piaf. Goodridge, who also plays a swinging violin, is known to do a version of Une Histoire de Plage, made popular by Brigitte Bardot. Dobson performs a French adaptation of her hit single Even When I’m Sleeping. Dobson also hopes to make time to get back to work on a new solo album to follow her single Horses, available on iTunes.

Baby Et Lulu play Broadbeach Jazz Festival’s Broadbeach Mall stage on Saturday at 6.30pm.
