Take a seat among the orches­tra

THE Gold Coast Phil­har­monic Orches­tra hosts In­side the Orches­tra, an open, two-hour re­hearsal and sup­per at the Gold Coast Youth Orches­tra Cen­tre on Au­gust 22 for Se­niors Week. The orches­tra’s mu­si­cians will pre­pare the reper­toire for the Teddy Bears Pic­nic con­cert pro­gram at the re­hearsals, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Guests will be seated be­side the mu­si­cians where they will be able to see the mu­sic, watch con­duc­tor Mark Turpin from ‘‘the other side’’ and view their favourite in­stru­ments be­ing played up close. Guests and mu­si­cians will break for sup­per and a chat at 8.30pm be­fore re­turn­ing to the re­hearsal. Sup­ported by the City of Gold Coast, the Teddy Bears Pic­nic pro­gram will in­clude or­ches­tral classics such as ex­cerpts from Swan Lake, the fa­mous Wil­liam Tell Over­ture and the fun Tuba Toothpaste by Bris­bane com­poser Sean O’Boyle (com­poser of the ABC TV’s Gar­den­ing Aus­tralia theme).

In­side the Orches­tra plays the Gold Coast Youth Orches­tra Cen­tre, in Ash­more, on Au­gust 22 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. En­try is free; places are strictly limited. Phone 5539 6076 to re­serve a seat.
