Live-action/animated family sequel in which the Smurfs and their human friends (Neil Patrick Harris and Glee’s Jayma Mays) must save Smurfette (voiced by Katy Perry), who has been kidnapped by the evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria). Also features the voices of Christina Ricci, Alan Cumming and Shaquille O’Neal. (Report, Page 10.) They say: Despite praise for its CGI effects, the film was criticised for being way too long – even for fans of all things Schtroumpf (it’s French for Smurf!). Adults will have trouble staying awake until the end credits roll. Wesay: Young kids will love it but like most sequels, director Raja Gosnell’s ( Home Alone 3 anyone?) The Smurfs 2 fails to live up to the original – which wasn’t much chop. Running time 102 minutes. Robina, Pacific Fair, Australia Fair, Coolangatta. Harbour Town, Nerang.
