Classics a road map for De Rome
WHILE most Gold Coast kids grow up listening to So Fresh, commercial R’n’B and Top 40 tracks, Bree De Rome (pictured) had an iPod playlist full of ‘‘the greats’’. The local songstress, who has appeared on Australia’s Got Talent in 2011, will release her debut EP Bag Of Bones on the Gold Coast this weekend and says she attributes her unique writing style to her young infatuation with Johnny Cash, The Ronettes and Billie Holiday. Bag Of Bones sees De Rome collaborate on songwriting with Sally Seltmann, Adrian Deutsch and Bryan Estepa. De Rome says the five-track EP covers everything from surf-rock to sweet ’60s girl pop to old school rock ’n’ roll and country.
Bree De Rome, Belltalk and The Altais play The Loft, on Chevron Island, on Saturday night. Tickets are $10.
