Full throttle for star DJs
THEY spend their nights cranking-up the soundtracks for parties all over the world, but Gold Coast brothers Chris (pictured, left) and Matt Stafford (right) can’t wait to head home from the US to pump up crowds at the V8 Supercars ARMOR ALL Gold Coast 600 next month. Matt says he and Chris have attended several Gold Coast Indy and V8 race events over the years. ‘‘They’re mad,’’ he says. Rated Australia’s top DJs after claiming the No.1 title for the third year running at this year’s inthemix Awards, the house music DJs/producers boosted their global profile starring in two series of their own reality TV show, The Stafford Brothers, on Foxtel’s FOX8. While they were stoked with how things were evolving when they relocated to the US last year, Matt says things have since gone to a whole new level. ‘‘We love it,’’ he says of LA. ‘‘It would be hard to leave. We really love it. We both do. I don’t think we’re going to live in Australia again. LA is a cool place to live. We love the Gold Coast but there’s a different vibe here. There’s a lot more happening. The weather is ridiculous here. It never rains.’’ While he and Chris are ‘‘in discussions to do another (different) TV show’’, Matt says performing live is their priority for now. ‘‘We want to keep growing what we do. We had the TV show and now we’re really focused on performing. I love to perform – that’s our bread and butter – and I love travelling and want to make what we do bigger. We just played a festival (Hello Hot Madness Fest) in Puerto Rico and people were going nuts – our single is a big hit there.’’ In fact, the single, Hello (featuring their Cash Money Records labelmates Lil Wayne and Christina Milian) has gone off, enjoying chart success in several countries. Almost every suburb of the Coast will play a part in the inaugural V8 Superfest next month, with 25 events spread across the city from October 1 as part of the race carnival. Events include the Gold Coast Rockers GC600 Hop at Runaway Bay and the two-day Jim Beam Sand Jam concert on Surfers Paradise beach. More than 8000 people are expected to attend each of the Friday and Saturday night concert events. US rap-rock outfit Gym Class Heroes, featuring Travie McCoy, headline Sand Jam on October 25, backed by Spiderbait, Havana Brown and Bomb’s Away, while The Presets, Grinspoon, The Stafford Brothers and DJ Brooke Evers perform on October 26.
