Joelle charts her path to success
LATEST X Factor eliminee Joelle hopes to convert her popularity on the TV talent show into a music career. ‘‘If I can get a cover of (Concrete Blonde’s) Joey to No. 3 on the charts through this amazing support system, then hopefully I can get my original music out there too,’’ says the singer songwriter who made a Tuesday exit from Channel 7’s TV talent show. ‘‘I’ve got some of my music on YouTube, I’ve been writing songs and just as soon as I am able, I’d like to get an original into the charts. That’s my goal. I have a couple of labels following me on social media, so you never know.’’ X Factor finalist songs sell on iTunes, but sales don’t count for votes as they do rival Channel 9’s The Voice. Joelle’s rendition of Joey charted just above her own mentor Redfoo for a moment. ‘‘I know, insane right?,’’ she laughs. The entertainer, however, has no complaints. She loved her time on the series and learned a lot. ‘‘Someone has to go and I was completely ready for it . . . I’ve had a rough run from the start. It toughened me up.’’ Judges Danni Minogue, Ronan Keating and Natalie Bassingthwaighte were unanimous in their choice to eliminate Joelle after a showdown with under 24s teammate Jiordan Tolli, saving mentor Redfoo from having to choose between his pupils. Seven finalists return to The X Factor on Sunday to perform songs by their musical heroes in Heroes Week. They include Logan siblings JTR and Daisy Hill piano and vocal teacher Dami Im. In other TV talent show news, Australia’s Got Talent has announced the acts that go through to Sunday’s second round of finals. They are Albury, NSW, circus performers Fruit Fly Circus, Sydney singer Leon Lee, 19, Sydney canine act Loretta and Jackson, Adelaide illusionist Raymond Crowe, Launceston singer Reuben Koops, 29, Melbourne musician The Funky Bunny and Newcastle band Greg Gould and The Chase.
The X Factor: Sunday, 6.30pm; Monday, 7.30pm, Seven, Prime7.
