ADoctor Who: Week­nights, 7.30pm, ABC2. US­TRALIAN Doc­tor Who dis­ci­ples can join mil­lions of fans around the world watch­ing the 50th an­niver­sary spe­cial as part of a global TV event.

Pub­lic broad­caster ABC1 joins more than 75 coun­tries in six con­ti­nents which si­mul­ta­ne­ously broad­cast the UK spe­cial The Day of the Doc­tor on Sun­day, Novem­ber 24.

‘‘ABC1 is thrilled to be part of this mo­men­tous global tele­vi­sion event, cel­e­brat­ing 50 years of ev­ery­one’s favourite Time Lord,’’ says Con­troller for ABC1 Bren­dan Dahill.

The spe­cial brings stars cur­rent doc­tor Matt Smith and his as­sis­tant Jenna Cole­man joined by for­mer Time Lord David Ten­nant, his as­sis­tant Bil­lie Piper and John Hurt.

‘‘The Doc­tor has al­ways been a time trav­eller – now he’s trav­el­ling time zones,’’ says showrun­ner and ex­ec­u­tive pro­ducer Steven Mof­fat.

‘‘On the 50th an­niver­sary, it won’t be the bad guys con­quer­ing the Earth – ev­ery­where it will be The Day of the Doc­tor.’’

ABC iview is air­ing hand-picked Doc­tor Who clas­sic se­ri­als from the archives. The 47 episodes fea­ture ev­ery Doc­tor from one to eight, scary mon­sters and beloved com­pan­ions. Fans choose the fi­nal in­stal­ment by cast­ing their vote for one of seven episodes at iview’s Face­book page.

Mul­tichan­nel ABC2 is screen­ing all episodes of Doc­tor Who from se­ries 1-7 on week­nights, end­ing on Novem­ber 22 and will air spe­cials that in­clude Doc­tor Who Ex­plained, The Best of Doc­tor Who, The TimeyWimey of Doc­tor Who, The Women of Doc­tor Who and The Des­ti­na­tions of Doc­tor Who over com­ing week­ends.
