ADoctor Who: Weeknights, 7.30pm, ABC2. USTRALIAN Doctor Who disciples can join millions of fans around the world watching the 50th anniversary special as part of a global TV event.
Public broadcaster ABC1 joins more than 75 countries in six continents which simultaneously broadcast the UK special The Day of the Doctor on Sunday, November 24.
‘‘ABC1 is thrilled to be part of this momentous global television event, celebrating 50 years of everyone’s favourite Time Lord,’’ says Controller for ABC1 Brendan Dahill.
The special brings stars current doctor Matt Smith and his assistant Jenna Coleman joined by former Time Lord David Tennant, his assistant Billie Piper and John Hurt.
‘‘The Doctor has always been a time traveller – now he’s travelling time zones,’’ says showrunner and executive producer Steven Moffat.
‘‘On the 50th anniversary, it won’t be the bad guys conquering the Earth – everywhere it will be The Day of the Doctor.’’
ABC iview is airing hand-picked Doctor Who classic serials from the archives. The 47 episodes feature every Doctor from one to eight, scary monsters and beloved companions. Fans choose the final instalment by casting their vote for one of seven episodes at iview’s Facebook page.
Multichannel ABC2 is screening all episodes of Doctor Who from series 1-7 on weeknights, ending on November 22 and will air specials that include Doctor Who Explained, The Best of Doctor Who, The TimeyWimey of Doctor Who, The Women of Doctor Who and The Destinations of Doctor Who over coming weekends.
