PACKED to the Rafters matriarch Rebecca Gibney (pictured) will star and produce The Killing Field, a new drama that will air on Channel 7 next year. Taking its plot cues from UK hit Broadchurch and pay TV’s Top of the Lake, Gibney plays a detective sent into a small town to investigate the murder of a teenage girl. It’s a dark, but deliberate career turn by the Logie-winning actor after playing one of Australia’s favourite TV mums, Julie Rafter. ‘‘There is the classic whodunit element but it’s also a vehicle to explore the darkness that lies beneath the surface of a seemingly ordinary town,’’ says Gibney. The Killing Field is one of a slate of new shows which air on Channel 7 and regional affiliate Prime7 next year. Other new offerings include INXS. Never Tear Us Apart, a telemovie about the rock and roll life of the rock gods before the death of Michael Hutchence, Resurrection, the Brad Pitt-produced drama set in Arcadia, Missouri where deceased loved ones start coming back to life and documentary Australia: The Story of Us.
