Buddy, Primus join mu­sic fests

THE 2014 Big Day Out and the 2014 By­ron Bay Blues­fest have both added new acts to their line-ups. BDO has added 11 more acts in­clud­ing Amer­i­can rock band Primus and Aus­tralian bands The Drones and Bliss N Eso.

It marks a re­turn to the fes­ti­val for Primus, who played at the third ever Big Day Out. Other new acts in­clude 360, Visto Chino (fea­tur­ing John Gar­cia and Brant Bjork of Kyuss), Kerser, Blue­juice, CSS, Vi­o­lent Soho, The Jun­gle Gi­ants and All The Colours.

The Big Day Out tour opens in Auck­land on Jan­uary 17 be­fore mov­ing on to the Gold Coast on Jan­uary 19 and then on to Mel­bourne, Syd­ney, Ade­laide and Perth. They join pre­vi­ously an­nounced BDO acts in­clud­ing Pearl Jam, Ar­cade Fire, Blur, Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion, Ma­jor Lazer, Flume, The Lu­m­i­neers, Tame Im­pala, Steve An­gello, Mac Miller, Mud­honey, Ru­fus and Cos­mic Psy­chos.

By­ron Bay Blues­fest pro­moter Peter Noble this week put the blues into his 25th an­niver­sary event, at Tya­garah Tea Tree Farm from April 17-21, with a fourth artist an­nounce­ment led by Buddy Guy and Jake Bugg.

Other artists added to the bill in­clude Char­lie Mus­sel­white, Booker T Jones, The James Cot­ton Band, Eric Bibb, Beth Hart, North Mis­sis­sippi Allstars, Devon All­man, Wal­ter Trout, Cab­dye Kane Band fea­tur­ing Laura Chavez and Saidah Baba Tal­ibah, with more acts to be an­nounced be­fore the end of the year.

The Big Day Out plays Met­ri­con Sta­dium on Jan­uary 19. The By­ron Bay Blues­fest plays Tya­garah Tea Tree Farm from April 17-21.

Buddy Guy, pic­tured at the 2012 By­ron Bay Blues­fest, will re­turn to play the fes­ti­val again next year.
